Playing strategy games all day means I sometimes crave something that won't punish a lapse in focus. That's where cosy management sims and quiet adventures come in, and the good ones are surprisingly deep once you settle in.

What I look for is a game that never uses timers to create fake urgency. Harbor Keeper is a favourite of ours because it lets you plan at your own pace while still having real logistics to chew on. Hollow Lantern goes further and drops mechanics entirely in favour of atmosphere.

These games are great for winding down before sleep or filling a slow afternoon. They also, oddly, make me a better strategy player, because a rested brain notices patterns a tired one misses.

If you only ever play competitive or high-pressure games, throw one cosy title into your rotation. It's not a step down, it's a different kind of good.
