Five Tower Defence Habits That Are Quietly Losing You Games

February 27, 2026 · Marek Halászi

Most people lose tower defence rounds not to hard waves but to habits formed in the tutorial. The first is over-building at the start, dumping all your money into two strong towers and leaving the rest of the map naked. Coverage beats raw power more often than you'd think.

The second is ignoring range. A tower placed one tile back can hit a longer stretch of the path, meaning more shots per enemy. Before you place anything, look at where the path bends, because corners are where enemies linger.

Third, people forget to upgrade what they already have. A fully upgraded tower is almost always better value than a second cheap one. Fourth, don't panic-sell during a wave; you rarely rebuild fast enough to matter.

The fifth and biggest habit is not reading the enemy preview. Games that tell you what's coming are handing you the answer. Adjust before the wave, not during it, and you'll win rounds you used to scrape through.
